LOVE these two. And the only reason we got to photograph their wedding is because the badass who WOULD have photographed it is one of the groom’s best friends (Grant Daniels, anyone?). So we’ll take being the backup option if it means getting to photograph people like Elizabeth and Jake - these kind, warm souls who were simply delightful. Thanks for having us, Smiths! It was a scorching, sweaty day, and we LOVED IT. And thanks for setting them up with us, Grant. We’re all friends now, k? K.

This photo right here, this one went in the all-time favorites folder. You see, when Christie and Blake chose us to be their wedding photographers, we weren’t pregnant and had no plans to become so. Fast-forward a few months, and there Shaun and I sat at Henry’s Majestic waiting for these two to arrive, worried and so nervous to tell them that were were due two weeks before their wedding. We would have totally understood if they wanted to go with a different photographer, given the unpredictable nature of childbirth. But what Christie and Blake did just endeared them to us for all of eternity.

Of course, they immediately congratulated us with beaming smiles and celebratory congratulations. But before we could nervously word-vomit our rehearsed reassurances about several backup plans, other extremely talented photographers we would have on-call, and a process we would still oversee (yada yada yada), Christie said, “Shaun, if Shannon goes into labor on our wedding day, you are not shooting! You are NOT missing the birth!” I think I cried a little. We then had a lovely dinner and three-quarters of a round of drinks, and Shaun and I left with a deepened affection for the soon-to-be-Armstrongs.

And now we arrive at the photo. This is Christie and Blake’s wedding day. Levi and I dropped Shaun off and made a quick run up to surprise Christie with a brief hello! Stealth was the goal so as to avoid siphoning attention from the wedding celebration, but the second Christie saw me with two week-old Levi wrapped up on my chest, she flashed that smile of hers, shrieked, and planted this hug so sweet, firm, and sincere that I actually felt her body shaking with happiness. I think we both cried a little.

So here they are, friends - the absolute kindest, most wonderful, and most sincere souls you’ll meet. Their Union Station wedding was a lovely as beautiful and they come, executed to PERFECTION by another all-time fave, Meredith Commender. Enjoy!
